Gretchen Peters
Gretchen Peters was always extremely creative, writing poetry and playing guitar at a young age. She quickly began performing live in her hometown of Boulder, Colorado and after the success of her first recording, she moved to Nashville. Peters’ genius lyricism was quickly noticed and, in no time, major artists were recording her songs. Popular artists she’s written for include: Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Patty Loveless, Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, Neville Brothers, and many more. In 1996, she was awarded Songwriter of the Year by the Nashville Music Awards followed by the CMA Song of the Year in 1995, for “Independence Day.” In 2014, she was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and received the Poet’s Award from the Academy of Country Music in 2021.
